Do you believe it will?

01/20/2009

So, we may not have needed Jon Bon Jovi there, but it was good to see  Bettye LaVette singing  “A Change Is Gonna Come”  at the celebration concert for Barack Obama! Watch it here. Bless her for being so easy on gracious to JBJ, who can mark the highpoint of his career right there :D

Many have gone there, and maybe only Aretha and Otis go there like Sam did, but here’s a few who stand to tell the story of the song, to me… For this is a song not only of hope and change, but a story of faith. The thing the singer has faith in, still, is the inevitability of change, and sometimes that alone is enough to carry you through.

May it carry us all…  and welcome home America! ;)

Chords | Lyrics :

I was born by the river
In a little tent, and o
just like that river
I’ve been running ever since

It’s been a long long time coming, but I know
A change is gonna come, oh yes it will

It’s been too hard living
but I’m afraid to die
’cause I don’t know what’s up there
beyond the sky,

It’s been a long time coming, but I know
A change is gonna come, oh yes it will

I go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep tellin me
don’t hang around

It’s been a long time coming, but I know
A change is gonna come, oh yes it will

Then I go to my brother
and I say brother help me please
But he wind up knocking me
back down on my knees

There have been times that I thought
I couldn’t last for long
But now I think I’m able to carry on

It’s been a long time, but I know
A change is gonna come, oh yes it will
