It ain’t necessarily so…

11/24/2008
“Oh I takes de gospel whenever it’s pos’ble
But wid a grain of salt”

It ain’t necessarily so is another pop-standard by George and Ira Gershwin originating from the 1935 opera Porgy & Bess. It’s been performed by many many many artists throughout the years, from Aretha to Cher and people like Jamie Cullum certainly can’t leave it alone ;) I love the song… so I tracked 2 x 8 It ain’t necessarily so‘s… which are all very different from each other but all worth their while ;) I think Ella and Louis kill it but Peggy’s hurts too and Sunny’s lovely live version is like him, unique ;)

You must see Sammy Davis Jr. perform It ain’t necessarily so in the 1959 Porgy & Bess movie too.
